August Add-Ons
Bryan's "favorite time of the year" came early! Ever since discovering La Cabra's release of Café Granja La Esperanza special lots, Bryan has called it his favorite time of the year. The past two years it was in October and November — in 2026 it is NOW. We've ben in touch with La Cabra over the past weeks and this is the only CGLE release of the year and we have been told these are very small lots.
This will be first come first serve. We're placing an order tonight - if for some reason one or more of these are already sold out, we'll just have to refund orders.
Not only timing is different this year, so is the selection. BUT the one we know y'all love is back: Sudan Rume natural. If you haven't had it - it's truly so special and unique. It'll be the most ginger you've ever had in a coffee, blended beautifully with tropical fruits. We can't wait.
The second offer is a variety that is grown only at CGLE as it was developed there. Read more about it below.
30 or 60g in our packaging or 100g in the original box.

La Cabra: CGLE 17 Washed

La Cabra: Sudan Rume

About the Potosí CGLE 17 Variety
The CGLE17 varietal is a hybrid cultivar iterated and honed by the Café Granja team over the past decade. The aim was to cross the Geisha varietal with Caturra, maintaining a degree of disease resistance and high yield potential, while gaining the high quality and distinct aromatic character of Geisha. The initial selections and crossings were made in 2011, with the first trees from this work eventually planted in 2014. This ‘F1’ hybrid is often slightly unstable, so further selections were made over subsequent generations, mainly searching for physical qualities of the trees, yields, resistance etc. In 2017, the final selection was crossed back with Geisha from Cerro Azul and planted at Potosí, completing the process. Delicate florals, distinct from the character of Geisha; heavier, almost spicy in their expression. A deep sweetness, reflective of Geisha’s roots in Ethiopia and Caturra’s in Bourbon. We were lucky enough to taste samples from the small harvests of CGLE that followed, and purchased from the first exported harvest several years ago.
About Sudan Rume
This is the tenth year we have purchased Sudan Rume grown on Cafe Granja La Esperanza’s Las Margaritas farm. Always stunning us with its strong varietal characteristics, we once again look forward to the distinctive Sudan Rume aromatic character. The Sudan Rume varietal has been lauded for its cup quality, partly down to competition success, but it hasn’t always been this way. The Sudan Rume varietal originates from modern day South Sudan, in what is now the Boma National Park. The park lies just across the border from Ethiopia, inside the small area where Arabica coffee still grows completely wild. Sudan Rume, or RS-510 as it is officially designated, is indeed an heirloom or ‘wild’ varietal, mainly used as a stock of high quality genes for new hybrid varietals. There are very few commercial plantations of pure Sudan Rume due to its low yields and susceptibility to disease, but Granja have planted a 4.8 hectare plot on Las Margaritas, and it has consistently produced outstanding results.

About Add-Ons
Our add-ons are offerings that are harder to come by in the US and that are coffees we would usually add on ourselves when placing our monthly orders. Whole bean, roasted for both filter and espresso. Add-ons come with the same brew card and recipe as everything else.
