Add-on

This month is the opposite of last month in one way: last month we had 3 new-to-us roasters for the add-ons. This month the add ons are all picks where we've had some version of last year's roast of the same or similar green. So these are picks based on experience and we hope you'll love them as much as we did last year's!

Kabuki: Lerida Estate Lot 5 - 0523

Kabuki is a micro roaster in Paris specializing in high-quality, exclusive geishas. When we first featured Kabuki about a year ago, their coffee was our most expensive feature to that point and it blew us away.

We’re all about variety, and this selection reflects that. While we’ve previously featured coffees from Hacienda La Esmeralda and Janson, this time we’re spotlighting a stellar offering from another renowned Panamanian producer we’ve yet to showcase — Lérida Estate.

Lérida Estate’s legacy is rooted in being one of Panama’s oldest and most historic coffee farms, consistently producing world-class specialty lots shaped by its unique high-elevation terroir and long-standing commitment to sustainability.

Offshoot: Blue Iris and Natcha Lot 3

A big reason of why we love Offshoot is how they highlight Asian coffees in such a big way. We gave you a taste of it with the Brim Lavender feature which many of you loved. Now, we’re stepping it up another level with a total of 3 Asian coffee features in a single month. If you’re thinking that’s a lot, we thought the same, but honestly, how do we give any of them up?

Blue Iris

Bryan first tasted this coffee thanks to a friend in GA (@barista_kid), who generously included it as a sample in our very first Offshoot feature over a year ago. It was one of those rare head-tilt, long-blink moments — you know the kind — when a coffee completely exceeds every expectation from the very first sip.

I remember thinking: When this comes around again, we have to feature it. And here we are.

Yes, it’s a Catimor.
Woody? Pencil shaving? That’s the assumption.

But this lot is processed so beautifully that my first impression was tropical fruit notes and vibrant acidity — elegant, aromatic and refined — layered seamlessly with osmanthus and black tea.

It’s easily one of the most impressive Asian coffees and one of the best expressions of Catimor I’ve ever tasted.

Natcha Lot 3 (this is a must-get)

Sometimes, what starts as a moment of panic turns into a massive discovery — and that’s exactly what happened with Natcha Coffee (https://www.natchacoffee.com/about-1).

Lot 8 was available when we did our first feature. In hindsight, Rummy at Offshoot did highly recommend it… and we somehow slept on it. Thankfully, Yonder brought some in for both bar and retail. While dialing it in, Caleb was so blown away that he immediately told us, “You guys need to try this.” So we did.

And… safe to say — we’re not sleeping on it again this year.

And this time, it gets even better: we have Lot 3. According to Rummy, Lot 3 is the pinnacle of the lots, with tasting notes of strawberry jam, pinot noir, and rose. Given how often his recommendations hit, we’re inclined to believe everything he says — until proven otherwise.

Sandbox: Los Nogales Typica Decaf

You guys push us to be better every day — and we’re especially grateful for that in this case… because it sent us straight down the decaf rabbit hole. Before this, we had barely touched decaf. We’re offering a decaf add-on for the second month in a row because you’ve made it clear how much you love it. And now, we make it a point to keep searching for decafs that are truly worth discovering.

This month’s selection is a Los Nogales Typica decaf — the same coffee (from a different harvest) that Weihong used to win the US Brewers Cup in 2024. It was also our first — and only — decaf to ever be a standard feature, and one of just two that stayed consistently in Bryan's personal decaf rotation while it was available. That said, we haven't seen the Typica in a while so we had to jump on it!

Sandbox is only our second German roaster to be featured. When Matthias recently asked his college room mate (who got him into coffee in the first place) who we should bring on, this was his recommendation and he didn't even have to think about it.

About Add-Ons

Our add-ons are offerings that are harder to come by in the US and that are coffees that we would usually add on ourselves when placing our monthly orders. Add ons will come with the same brew card and recipe as everything else.
